How do we create our ranking?

Transparent rules

The rankingwin.pl service is much more than a wine search engine - it is a space created with you in mind. We are putting in your hands a platform that facilitates the exchange of opinions, allows you to discover new places and freely navigate the rich world of Polish winemaking. We are not a shop, we do not sell - we are a community.

Our mission, alongside connecting enthusiasts, is the development and promotion of Polish wine regions. We have every right to be proud! Excellent conditions, unique terroirs and a modern approach to craftsmanship mean that world-class wines are created here, which deserve the widest possible recognition. From the wealth of these regions grow local vineyards, which we want to actively support. We help them not only in the digital presentation of their wines, but also in the development of enotourism - from hotel activities to the organisation of exceptional cultural events.

Because the foundation of our community is trust, we care about full transparency. Therefore, in accordance with the best market practices (including the requirements of the Omnibus Directive concerning the prevention of unfair market practices), below we simply and openly explain how our algorithms work: what affects a wine's rating, how we determine the order in search results and how we ensure the credibility of every opinion.

1.What makes up a wine's Quality Rating?

The rating visible next to each wine is not a matter of chance. It is a carefully balanced result, which consists of two elements:

  • The voice of the community (the most important factor): Scores awarded by our registered Users. It is you who ultimately shapes the picture of the market!
  • The voice of experts: Ratings from professional sommelier tastings and medals won in recognised competitions.

How does it work in practice? The impact of individual elements on the final rating changes dynamically. In the case of new releases that have not yet received an opinion on our service, expert scores and awards won play a key role. Over time, as community reviews appear, they become the leading factor, and the weight of professional ratings proportionally decreases. The entire process is constantly analysed and rigorously protected against attempts to artificially inflate or deflate the results.

2.Visibility in results and offer management - how do we determine the order?

A high Quality Rating is not the only factor determining where you will see a wine on the search results list. In order for our rankings to be as useful as possible, the final position (visibility) is determined jointly by the wine's rating and its market status.

Wines occupying high positions in several different categories gain a small bonus to their place in the main ranking, affecting the display order of wines with a very similar rating without changing their Quality Rating.

What happens when wines have an identical Quality Rating (ex aequo)? Then their mutual order on the list is determined by additional criteria:

  • Current product availability - we present higher the wines that are currently available for sale.
  • Currentness of the vintage - the system promotes the newest, current editions of a given wine in the results.
  • Popularity - measured on the basis of engagement and community activity in the service.

Thanks to this, you will easily find wines that are not only highly rated, but also actually available in the appropriate vintage. Important: availability, vintage and popularity only affect the display order on the list - they never change the Quality Rating of the wine itself.

3.Tools for Producers and algorithm objectivity

As a provider of modern technologies, we provide winemakers with professional system tools (including commercial services), allowing them to manage their portfolio independently. Thanks to this, producers can take care of the accuracy of information visible to Users - e.g. hide archival, sold-out vintages and display those currently available.

Using these tools allows producers to update the status of a wine (which, according to the criteria described in point 2, naturally and organically affects its visibility), however it is not a form of purchasing a place in the ranking. Our algorithm always treats updated data about the vintage and availability in an absolutely objective manner, regardless of whether they come from users, from our systems, or from the panel provided to the producer.

4.Genuine opinions - where do they come from and how do we verify them?

Our greatest value is authenticity. Ratings and reviews on the service can only be submitted by registered and logged-in Users.

  • 1:1 rule. We rigorously enforce the rule: one person means one account.
  • Zero tolerance for abuse. We apply appropriate verification mechanisms and take proportionate blocking actions to effectively prevent fake or coordinated reviews.
  • The full picture. We publish the authentic, unfiltered voice of the community. We never hide or delete opinions simply because they are critical or unflattering to the producer.

5.Reporting irregularities

Together we take care of the platform's reliability. If you come across an opinion that raises your doubts, please inform us by writing to the address: [email protected]. We treat every report seriously and subject it to careful verification.
